The Orientation-Weeks ("O-weeks") program is primarily aimed at first-year students. For the first time this year, FIM is also offering its O-Weeks program in English.
To participate in the O-Weeks, please register on the registration page for our O-Weeks. You can also indicate whether you would like to book our courses in German or English.
The official start of the FIM-O Weeks is on Monday, September 29, which is also when the math bridge course begins. If you are only participating from week 2 onwards, there will be a short welcome event for you on Monday, October 6. This will be followed by an introduction to the computer. You can find the current schedule for the rest of the program on the Dates and Course Times page.
Current information and materials on the FIM-O Weeks can be found in the O-Weeks overview of the FSinfo (student council of the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics), which is co-organizing these O-Weeks, as well as in their Stud-IP event 244.
The contents of the computer introduction course will be available at the start of the course via Stud-IP event 5000.
General information about the FIM Orientation Weeks
Before the actual start of lectures, the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics (FIM) offers one orientation week (or two before the winter semester) to help students get started with their studies. The event is organized by the FIM student council in cooperation with FIM system support and FIM lecturers.
The program is aimed at first-year students enrolled in a degree program at the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of Passau:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science
- Bachelor's degree in Artificial Intelligence
- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics
- Master's degree programs at FIM (only if not all training places have already booked by bachelor's students)
The Orientation-Week content is specifically tailored to these degree programs. For this reason, and also due to limited capacity in the area of computer introduction, students from other degree programs are not admitted to this program.
Attending the O-Week(s) is not mandatory, but it does offer advantages when starting your studies. By the time lectures actually begin, you will already be familiar with your study environment, so you won't have to figure everything out for yourself and won't lose time due to orientation problems.
Program components of the FIM-Orientation weeks
The FIM's Orientation-Week program usually includes the following:
- Practical introduction to FIM IT services
- Math bridge course (refresher on basic school math concepts, only takes place before the start of the winter semester)
- Getting to know the university campus as part of a campus rally
- Library tours
- Getting to know fellow students in courses and at social events such as pub crawls or campfires
The FIM-O Week program is supplemented by events and online information from ZIM. Here you can learn how to use the Stud.IP study organization system or get information about the university's general IT services, which you can access with your general university ID.
