Software
The FIM participates in several software programs at the faculty and university level, which provide employees and students with cheap or even free access to software licenses. Information on software procurement for faculties and institutions can be found at the end of this website.
Free software licenses for faculty members
The FIM has agreements with some software providers for the free use of software by students or professors and employees. To use the software, a license key is usually required, which can be requested by e-mail from the FIM System Support. Please note the terms of use of the respective licensors.
Currently the following software is available:
Mathematics: Matlab. Within the scope of a cross-faculty university scientist license, professors and staff members may install and use Matlab on their workstations. Students can use Matlab within the scope of a classroom license in the FIM student computer pools without requiring an individual license key.
Python: JetBrains Pycharm
software development: IBM Rational Architect
XML: JetBrains IntelliJ Idea
UML: Visual Paradigm. From the Partnership Acknowledgement of the software manufacturer: "University of Passau is an academic partner of Visual Paradigm. The usage of Visual Paradigm's UML modeler, BPMN and DFD tools give students the opportunity to learn about IT development".
UML: Yatta UML Lab.
Further free software products can be found on the websites of the University's IT Purchasing Department, e.g:
Microsoft Software
Virus protection: Sophos Anti-Virus
Software at research & teaching prices
For software procurement for chairs and institutions (not for students!) the IT Purchasing Department of the university will support you. Here you can also find out whether you can purchase certain software at a favorable price via an existing framework agreement, for example. On the web pages of IT Purchasing you will find contact persons and an overview of software procurement.
