Working with Linux
All FIM pool computers (as well as practically all FIM servers) run on Linux. So sooner or later during your studies, you will come into contact with this operating system.
If you have no prior knowledge of Linux, we recommend our Linux introduction, which will teach you all the basic concepts of Linux. In particular, you will also learn about the Linux environment of the FiM student computers. For advanced users, it is particularly interesting to learn how the Linux environment in the FIM pools differs from other Linux environments.
The Linux introduction consists of a script entitled “Introduction to Computers” and accompanying exercises. The current version can be found as accompanying material for Stud-IP event 5000 for the current semester. The exercise section describes how to use the course materials and where to get help with the exercises. If you are working through the course on your own, you can get help via the contact addresses listed in our support overview. The main contacts for questions about the introduction to computing are Mr. Gebauer, Mr. Schießl, and Mr. Rautmann.
