Mattermost Team-Messenger
Mattermost is an instant messenger, which is mainly used for communication within working groups. Teams can establish group chats via topic-related channels, individuals can communicate directly with each other. Webhooks allow the integration of many other services such as Git or Zoom.
Using Mattermost
The FIM's Mattermost server can be reached at the URL mattermost.fim.uni-passau.de. For many platforms (iOS, Android, Linux, MacOS, Windows) Mattermost also offers own apps for download.
Registration at the FIM-Mattermost-Service
A FIM ID is required to use the FIM Mattermost service. Login is done via two-step authentification, since the Mattermost service has been linked to the FIM-Gitlab service for authentication.
First open the Mattermost start page. The "Gitlab" button takes you to the FIM-Gitlab login, where you enter your FIM ID and then the corresponding password under "LDAP Username". After successful authentication, you will automatically return to Mattermost. You will then be asked to join one or more teams that have been approved for you. There is a standard team "FIM" that is shared with all users of the FIM Mattermost service.
Setting up teams for chairs, institutions and students of the FIM
In order to establish communication channels for your workgroup independently of this standard team, we will be happy to set up a separate team for your workgroup. A team manager, to be named by you, will then be given the rights to manage your team (e.g. invite new members to your team, create webhooks for applications such as Git, etc.).
To set up a team, please apply to the FIM System Support via our support address support@fim.uni-passau.de. Your request must contain the FIM identifier of your Team Manager. Please note that the selected person must have logged on to the FIM Mattermost Service at least once before he or she can be registered as Team Manager.
a meaningful team name (2 to max. 15 characters). The team name must not start with the following expressions: signup, login, admin, channel, post, api, oauth, error, help, plugins.
