The "IT-Security summer school" is funded by the DAAD under the program "Sommerschulen im Ausland". It has been organised in collaboration with the University of Antananarivo’s "MISA: Mathématiques, Informatiques et Statistiques Appliquées" (translating to Maths, Computer Sciences and Applied Statistics) department, led by Mr Andry Rasoanaivo.
The MISA department plays since 1996 a leading role in computer science education at the University of Antananarivo, at Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate levels. Unfortunately, existing curriculum has a shortage of courses that deal in depth with topics related to IT security. With an English-taught IT-security and reliability courses in the Master program, Passau is an outstanding partner in offering highly professional training opportunities.
The summer school is part of the cooperation strategy of the Universities of Passau and Antananarivo. It has been an opportunity of professional and cultural exchange: the attendees experienced the German teaching style and learned about the study and research opportunities in Germany through expositions by the DAAD Antananarivo, and through the program, the German delegates became one the first generation of researchers from non-French speaking countries to promote cyber security at research level in Madagascar.
