Due to an increase in phishing attacks, it occasionally happens that students or staff are tricked into revealing their login information. The compromised login details are then exploited, leading to thousands of spam emails being sent from the affected university accounts. In turn, this can lead to some email providers blacklisting the email server of the University of Passau as a known source of spam. At the current time, we know that University emails sent via Outlook to Hotmail, MSN, Live or Outlook email addresses in certain countries and domains (.de, .at and .com) are not reaching their recipients. Unfortunately, the university has no means of influencing how long any given email provider’s blacklisting lasts.
