Project SSiX: Social Sentiment Indices powered by X-Scores
European H2020 ICT Social Sentiment Indices powered by X-Scores (SSIX) seeks to address the challenge of extracting relevant and valuable economic signals in a cross-lingual fashion from the vast variety of and increasingly influential social media services; such as Twitter, Google+, Facebook, StockTwits and LinkedIn, and in conjunction with the most reliable and authoritative newswires, online newspapers, financial news networks, trade publications and blogs. A statistical framework of qualitative and quantitative parameters called X-Scores will power SSIX; this framework will interpret economically significant sentiment signals that are disseminated in the social ecosystem. Using X-Scores, SSIX will create commercially viable and exploitable social sentiment indices, regardless of language, locale and data format. SSIX and X-Scores will support research and investment decision making for European SMEs, enabling end users to analyse and leverage real-time social media sentiment data in their domain, creating innovative products and services to support revenue growth with focus on increased alpha generation for investment portfolios.
European H2020 ICT Project MARIO: Managing active and healthy aging with use of caring service robots
Loneliness, isolation, depression and dementia are really tough problems. Somebody needs to make meaningful progress in those areas and create solutions that can be offered to the community. This forms the starting point for our MARIO project. In particular, MARIO addresses the difficult challenges of loneliness, isolation and dementia in older persons through innovative and multi-faceted inventions delivered by service robots. The effects of these conditions are severe and life-limiting. They burden individuals and societal support systems. Human intervention is costly but the severity can be prevented and/or mitigated by simple changes in self-perception and brain stimulation mediated by robots. The proposal brings together the well-known Kompai platform and commercial footprint of ROBOSOFT. Clear advances are made in the use of semantic data analytics, personal interaction, and unique applications tailored to better connect older persons to their care providers, community, own social circle and also to their personal interests. The impact of MARIO is centred on deep progress toward EU scientific and market leadership in service robots and a user driven solution for this major societal challenge. The competitive advantage is the ability to treat tough challenges appropriately. The path to market deployment by bringing MARIO solutions to end users is clearly developed.
Antiquarianism played an important role in the shaping of Europe's cultural heritage. Inspired by archaeological discoveries in the Mediterranean and Near East during the late 18th century Neoclassicism may be regarded despite seizable regional differences as a Pan-European cultural movement engraving antiquity in such diverse fields as architecture, landscape design, the fine and decorative arts, literature and even composition. Neoclassica is a project situated at the crossroads of History, Art History, Media Studies, Linguistics, Cultural Sociology and Computer Science to trace the impact of this movement.
For the moment it provides an ontology for the material culture imension of Neoclassical artefacts. The ontology comprises currently more than 500 categories from the field of furniture and furnishings and considerable number of terms that can be used to analyse architectural and constructional features of Neoclassic artefacts. Eventually Neoclassica will mature in a collaborative research platform for tracing the emergence and afterlife of Europe's Neoclassical heritage by analysing and comparing the classic formal vocabulary across various media in a comparative and multi- and transdisciplinary perspective. It will do so by applying new ways of knowledge discovery, in particular by intertwining qualitative research steps with computer assisted research- and assisted learning procedures. It will make use of existing and design and validate new methods of semantic technologies and in particular distributional semantics to approach a vast variety of multimodal sources.
By joining such analysis with technologies having hitherto chiefly been used in opinion mining and sentiment analysis Neoclassica will also record the web of meaning associated with particular material artefacts, representations or forms, both contemporary and as a part of our cultural memory.
